a sporadic self-chronicle since 2001

Went to the local multicultural festival today. All kinds of food, Russian circus performers, an African glass dancer and the local children’s dancers. My niece, Olivia, was among them so we were there primarily to watch her. It was all pretty cool, but I was especially impressed with the Russian circus family. Oh, I also ran into Ali (Karlene’s brother), his girlfriend and her daughter.

We had BBQ’d hamburgers for a quick dinner and rushed off to church after which was the baptism of JP’s new daughter, Ava.

Once that was done, a bunch of their friends came over for a party. Entirely couples and mostly teachers with kids. A few people I knew and decent amounts of drinking. This is it for adults, it seems. The height of excitement.

This is my brother and I explaining short wave radio to a bunch of non-science teachers:

Since most of the people had kids, they left around nine and the one couple without kids stayed and hung out for another two hours or so. They’re getting married this summer and presently live in a house they rent out to three others, including a guy (named Christopher) with 11 toes whom they secretly call Toefer.

Once they left, others went to bed and JP and I had a couple Rye and ginger’s and chatted by candlelight about family, God and school. Quite enjoyable. Usually I only get one-on-one talks with J on the car ride to and from there so it was nice to talk to the other brother.

Anyway, I was pretty drunk by the end. When it was down to just Jeep and I, neither of us needed another drink (him least of all) but we had a couple more anyway. I ended up passing out downstairs, listening to St. Lawrence River on repeat.

[Edit: Some pictures from the day can be found here]
