a sporadic self-chronicle since 2001

You know those school chairs that have the easel (or writing palette) attached to it on the side? The company I work at makes those, but on theirs, the easel flips up so you can get into the seat more easily. Apparently they were told people want larger writing surfaces so instead of redesigning the present model, they simply ordered 80 larger easel pieces for the shipment that was supposed to go out today. Didn’t order just one to test it, they decided they’d do them all.

So these new pieces arrived this morning and it turns out that the positioning of the thing is such that as soon as you rest your arm on it, the weight of your elbow and the positioning of the back part of the easel make it flip up on you. Not useful at all. As a student who uses the things often, I took a look at it and told my boss the easiest way would be to redesign the frame so the hinge was more towards the outer edge of the easel. Sure, that’s right. But it doesn’t help the fact that the order couldn’t go out today.

This is the well-oiled machine that employs me.

Three students called in sick this morning: Chris, Jonathan and Kim. Also, one of the two new guys who began yesterday showed up only to quit. Yep, it’s a great job.

I got to work with Laura today. She in aerospace engineering at Ryerson and is pretty fun. She also apparently brings out the sick humour I used to have in high school. I guess I just don’t have much opportunity to use it anymore apart from occasionally around Mike or Joe. Anyway, she’s on BME and such and was pretty fun to talk to. The day seemed to go by rather quickly.

My lack of sleep lately meant I was rather tired when I got home. Napped for a couple hours and was too lazy to make dinner. Instead, I grabbed a $5 pizza from Little Caesars and went back to bed.

Unbeknownst to me, Cora took my bike in to this shop last week to get it in working order and it’ll be ready tomorrow. Pretty cool little surprise and about damn time I had a functioning bike. It’s been months since I last rode that infernal machine.
