a sporadic self-chronicle since 2001

Shawn, Laura and I went to see ‘War of the Worlds’ this afternoon. I can’t really talk about it without possibly spoiling stuff so you know, don’t read on if you haven’t seen it.

<potential spoilers>
Anyway, it sort of reminded me of ‘Signs’ in that there’s this big epic event happening around the world and we, the audience, experience it from the isolated view of some small time person. It was better than ‘Signs’ though in that we got to see more of the big picture. Sure a lot of the movie was the main character hiding out somewhere but in-between hiding spots, we got to see a great deal of what was going on in the outside world.

The effects were really great, that’s for sure. I guess that should be expected now in a Steven Spielberg film. Laura seemed unimpressed with it, but I think she had a hard time getting over the many, many inconstancies she and I found in the movie.

I want to see ‘Land of the Dead’ next. Maybe next weekend if I can find others who also want to see it.

In our guild raid tonight, we killed Onyxia in two tries - the best we’ve done in a while. Afterwards, we farmed Molten Core for items with only 20 or so of us. I had picked up a 2L of Barq’s and between it, listening to the new Foo Fighters album and just hanging out with people from the guild, it was actually really fun.

Oh, I grilled up some hamburgers for dinner. Damn good on a long summer weekend.

No, Robbie, they’re not from Europe.
