a sporadic self-chronicle since 2001

The fourth day of Shawn’s birthday.

Managed to pull myself out of bed only a little late this morning. Heavy fog on the bike into work, which I always enjoy. I was still a little drunk but got to work with Jonathan, so that was cool.

Laura’s boss, Grant, left a couple hours early telling her, “When you get to my age, certain parts of your body start bleeding and you need to take medication to make it stop.” WTF?

Afterwards, Laura and I biked back here so she could pick up her car which she had left here last night.

I had intentions of heading out to Futureshop right away but instead I fell asleep for a few hours. When I eventually woke up, I headed out to Futureshop and picked up Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls for Shawn’s Christmas/birthday gift. While there, I found the Doom 3 expansion was out already and only $24.99. Nice.

Shawn and I grilled up some hamburgers for dinner and headed off to Janet’s. On the way, I picked up a six-pack of Sleeman Honeybrown and a single of Corona for Shawn and I.

When we arrived, there was a big BBQ going on which, it turns out, was actually not Janet’s party but one a bunch of gay friends were throwing that Janet was sort of invited to join. There was much drinking and Janet brought out a bunch of cakes and pies and things to snack on. I didn’t have a bottle opener so I tried opening the Corona on a chunk of cement and just ended up smashing the top off the bottle. I tried filtering out the glass shards through a paper towel but it took forever so and then it was warm so I just dumped it all.

After a bunch of hanging out at the BBQ and then in Janet’s apartment, a big bunch of us headed out to Club Abstract. I caught a cab with a few guys I had just met since Shawn’s birthday status got him a free ride there.

Don’t fret precious I’m here, step away from the window.

Laura arrived shortly after me with her cousin and some guy her cousin met at a bar in Toronto. He was apparently my age but looked pretty immature. Abstract charges $6.50 for a Jager Bomb so I only got one of those and then a couple Molson Kicks. Laura and I went to a nearby schoolyard for a bit to smoke and then returned. Shortly thereafter, she and her entourage took off for the night.

Two nights of drinking in a row for Shawn and in total he only bought himself one beer and one bottle of water. Not bad, Mr Birthday Boy. Also, we got them to play the Dandy’s Bohemian Like You for him, which he liked.

I think Abstract might be in competition for best bar in town, just because of the music and attire of people there. There were about 7 songs in a row right off the playlist I’ve had all week for my ride in and out of work each day. And a lot of the other stuff they played was great hard rock alternative and electronica. And the attire of people there? Well corsets, hooker boots, leather and latex are always hot so it’s my kind of place. Anyway, it was all lots of fun and Shawn enjoyed himself.

After the club, we drove back with Janet and company and went out for pizza (I stopped elsewhere and grabbed a pita instead). Janet and her boyfriend (who was pretty cool) left us in a hurry so Shawn and I made sure Janet’s roommate made it back safe and sound before walking home. Shawn and she had been… close towards the end of the night.

The district sleeps alone tonight.
