Shawn, Laura and I went to a barbeque Rachel had tonight at her parents’ place while they’re away for the weekend. It was officially a barbeque but in reality it was more of a small house party. Maybe 15-20 people there of a wide variety. A few people I knew, some relatives of Rachel and Laura and co-workers, high school friends and other friends. A gaggle of young immature boys which annoyed me to no end and a large number of girls whose names I almost managed to remember.
As for the barbeque part of the event, Rachel was planning on cooking hotdogs for people. Shawn and I decided to bring our own food and bought a box of giant beef burgers. Six 8 oz burgers and damn were they ever large. I ate one, perfectly charcoaled on the grill, and was stuffed. It has something like 56 g of fat and 600+ calories. You know, real heart-stopping stuff. Other than us and Laura with her slim little veggie burger, there wasn’t much of any grilling of food.
There was, however, pita with hummus, chips, pop and a vodka-soaked watermelon which was so saturated with the stuff that it was simply gross. Well, gross if you were hoping for something that tasted remotely like watermelon.
It was a pretty good party. Good music, interesting people. Kind of like a bar, but with cheaper (self-provided) drinks and an atmosphere more conducive to talking.
Anyway, it was good but I’m an old man (Shawn was the eldest there while I was a close second) who gets up early for work and by the time midnight rolled around, I was fading fast. Around two in the morning, I asked if there was a spare room I could crash in and told Shawn I was grabbing some sleep.
