Worked with the boss, Jeff, today, writing up inventory tags. Most of the people were sent home at noon and the rest at 3pm. I was asked to stay right until the end where it was me and seven supervisors. Yay.
Joe drove me just into Toronto and on the way we stopped for McDinner (4 cheeseburger day!). He dropped me off at the York Mills TTC entrance and I was at Laura’s in under twenty minutes.
Before Joe and I left town, we stopped in at Bestbuy to try to get the DS deal and they were out of the game itself. The guy in the department said they’d give me a rain-cheque but when I got to the courtesy desk the lady in charge said they didn’t do that and instead they would give me a gift card for the amount of the game and I could come in later and get it.
But then they said they would just discount me the price of the game from my purchase instead but when they rung it up, it was the $169.99 + tax anyway. So Joe and I are like “They have no idea what they’re doing” and when they ran my credit card, it was declined.
So to do it, I had to pay with cash and then I couldn’t afford rent so I’d have to get things sorted out before Tuesday to pay rent. This meant either the EB return had to go without a hitch or I could return it to Futureshop for in-store credit and get someone to “buy” the credit off me for cash - and all before Tuesday. All while in Toronto. Seemed unlikely.
Plus, the fact that Joe and I both agreed the customer service people really didn’t “get” what they were doing and I wouldn’t just be paying $169.99 + tax for the DS and the game… I decided to forget it. I tried.
So I turned to Joe, said “fuck it” and told the girl that I really didn’t feel comfortable since she didn’t seem to know what was going on. If I could put it on my credit card, where I had them to back me up and reverse the charge if I got screwed, then sure. But to pay with cash? Forget it, I didn’t trust them. And we left.
