a sporadic self-chronicle since 2001

Today I was given notice that Wednesday is my last day at work.

Except, they didn’t want to actually lay me off. Instead, it’s a temporary lay-off where they say they’re planning on calling me back in early December (the estimate is December 12) to continue working for them (I think until and through the summer - if I wanted to). In addition, if they get an influx of orders in the mean time, they’ll call me in to work for a couple days.

Like, what the hell?

You guys just did inventory and discovered you made like $20 million (an approximation but that’s close to the real number) this year. You can’t afford to keep me, your lowest paid employee, for a few weeks in-between now and then?

I used to feel bad that people like Ryan and Mike gave them only a couple days notice before leaving. After the company did the same to me, though, I’m pleased they did and happier still for those who said they quit as they handed in their stuff halfway through the day during the summer.

Shawn and I made banana milkshakes tonight. Except once we pulled out all the ingredients, we remembered we didn’t have a blender. Instead, we filled our giant 4L measuring cup with bananas, milk and ice cream and then mashed it all up with a potato masher. It was delicious.
