Laura and I checked out the Cavalcade of Lights First Lighting Celebration at Nathan-Phillips Square tonight. They kept it interesting with fireworks, varying performances and the “Ice Queen” who reminded me of the witch from The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe… except that she had a gown of Christmas lights, staves that shot sparklers and fireworks, and a pole behind her that shot out giant plumes of fire.

Also, we stopped by the Eaton Centre on the way home to warm up for a wee bit. It’s all decorated pretty, too.
Laura and I watched ‘Birth’ tonight. The basic premise is that a 10-year-old boy confronts a widow and tells her that he is her late husband, reincarnated. Another movie where being more conclusive would have made it less good. Instead, when all was said and done, you could make a strong case for two explanations of the movie, and that was part of what made it so good. I can see some people having issues with the pedophilia… though somehow it hadn’t occurred to me until after the movie was over.
[More pictures from the night can be found here]

I’m glad you put up at least the one picture of the KKK dancers. As for the pedophilia in the movie, I can see people objecting to it, but first of all, nothing major happens in a sexual regard and second of all, the young actor is amazing and has very adult mannerisms when it comes to any of the sexual stuff which makes it seem less bad, strangely.
November 29, 2005 @ 8:03 amOh sure, it’s the same creepy kid from ‘Godsend’ - excellent at being mature and creepy.
Ah yes, and Laura seemed to think the people dancing with fire were from the KKK since they were in white and lot stuff on fire.
November 29, 2005 @ 8:59 amthat “queen” is frightening in that picture (i’m sure it was much more spectacular in real life)…she reminds me of a scarecrow or something… or like she’s going to shoot lightening at everyone soon when they’re least expecting it.
aww the eaton centre is really nice. i usually avoid malls becuase i worked in retail for over three years and christmas time is *the worst* time to be working in retail…but now that i’ve been away from it for a while, it’ve become one of the excited shoppers that walks around staring at all of the pretty decorations. hehe
November 29, 2005 @ 10:07 amYeah, malls are crazy busy during Christmas. As a guy, I usually only go to a mall to get something specific so it’s not too bad. I can’t imagine what it would be like if I were meandering around looking for nothing in particular.
November 29, 2005 @ 10:14 ami just looked at the picture of the eaton centre again when i was looking at the “more” pictures… oh man, look how many people are in there!!!! *imagines the line ups*
okay.. i haven’t quite recovered from my retailing days, it seems.
November 29, 2005 @ 10:24 amJill will definitely be jealous of these pix. She wanted to go to the cavalcade of light but we ended up staying in on Saturday night and cooking dinner for her parents instead.
November 29, 2005 @ 10:38 amIf it’s any comfort Alison, it was just after 9pm on Saturday when we were going through the Eaton Centre, so everything was closed. It was packed because everyone leaving the square in that direction wanted to cut through there to get warm
Laura and I were thinking of asking you and Jill to come with us, Mike, but we weren’t sure if and when we were going until we were walking out the door, fifteen minutes before it began.
