a sporadic self-chronicle since 2001

Remember 2005?
———————————

So 2005 was a pretty damn good year.

I feel bad talking about media from the past year because I certainly didn’t didn’t keep up on things. I didn’t see every movie, listen to every album or play every game I wanted to. So I guess I’ll just mention a few of the ones I really liked.

Movies saw a few really cool ones like ‘Constantine,’ ‘Wedding Crashers’ and ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin.’

TV brought more of the things I was already really enjoying, such as Lost and Battlestar Galactica and also brought me The Office which started out good and got increasingly better. I’m not sure why, but I’m still watching Joey, even though I can’t wait for every episode to end.

In music, there were a lot of new and great albums. Excellent new stuff from The Gorillaz, The Foo Fighters, Metric, The Dandy Warhols, Kasabian, Nine Inch Nails, Theory of a Deadman and Coldplay – all of which I highly enjoyed. Also, The Tragically Hip and Matt Good released multiple-disc best of albums which were nice to grab.

I started this new blog this year. I like it more than the last thing a lot but I’m already getting tired of my rip-off Kubrick theme.

Good summer. Full of all kinds of things and kind of weird. I spent more time outside this summer than others, I’m sure.

I was stuck on school forever… trying to get it done and over with. That was weird for me since there was definitely some sort of emotional garbage going on there.

But I did finish off that last assignment and I convocated. So that’s pretty cool.

Got myself a full time, crappy job. It started out as something temporary to pay the bills and somehow I’m still there. But it’s still a full time job.

Mind you, it was also the first time I’ve ever been fired. Sure, I was laid off but whatever. Doesn’t make me feel better.

Saw a fantastic concert in November. That was damn cool.

And of course, I met and started dating Laura. Truly the highlight of my year.

Really, in thinking about all that’s happened this year, it’s hard to believe it all happened in the same year. It’s like some 3D puzzle you keep trying to assemble but there’s always once piece left out in the end because there’s no way it could all fit together.

Year’s End
——————–

Party at my place and Alison and Dennis brought their own bar with them. My poor contribution were the 60 Timbits.

Laura picked up Rachel and Robyn around when the others arrived. There were sort of plans to head down to Kitchener to see The Trews play and stay for the countdown, but no one really seemed to want to go. I don’t remember who the hell they are so I didn’t care and staying here was easier. So we did. Instead, we hung out and drank.

Shawn had too much to drink. Or maybe it was the mixed drinks involving wine and gin. Who knows, really?

Later on, after the countdown, we went over to Pizza Pizza to grab something to eat. It was pretty packed with a constant stream of people coming and going. I guess that happens when you’re the only place left open.

I forgot to make up a good playlist ahead of time so when Dennis and Alison arrived, I scrambled to throw something together using a mix of already existing playlists and I think it worked out quite well. Robyn seemed impressed with my selection, so I feel accomplished. I mean, she’s equal to Mike Ruth in their knowledge of really good, lesser known artists. Only, her musical taste is closer to mine (doesn’t include the punk or emo stuff Mike likes that I’m really not that into) so, you know, all the better.

Anyway, Robyn crashed on a couch in the living room and Rachel took the spare bed upstairs. Only, we turned off the heat since no one’s living in there and I forgot to turn it on so I imagine she was damn cold under a sheet and thin comforter.

my life, it seems has taken a turn
