They gave us our “bonus” cheques yesterday. Last time, mine was just cash thrown into an envelope; pocket change not even enough for a meal.
This time, I got -$1.12. Nice. That’s based on 1.33% of my pay for the past 3 months, -$2 for every hour I’ve missed. What have I missed? 18 hours (2 days) of sick days (days I took off to look for other employment) and a whole bunch of me being late.
It’s kind of an interesting catch-22. The bonus is to motivate people to have better attendance. However, it’s so low that it doesn’t motivate me at all. Plus, I hate the company since it treats everyone so poorly, so I’m not motivated at all to be on time and I’m quite okay with missing an entire day to look for other work. This, of course, results in a lower “bonus” which adds to my low opinion of the company.
But it’s not like it’s just me. Half of the other full time people get next to nothing, too. One of the guys I work with got 75 cents, another got a $5 bill and yet another got -$4. Actually, of the people I asked, only one actually got anything significant… and it was only $60. Yeah, real motivation there.
The new windows are all in and done now - thankfully.

I think it’s safe to say it’s a definite improvement.
I had wanted to go out to the bar to celebrate the combined birthdays of Shawn and I with our friends here in Ontario but both Shawn and I headed out on vacation right around our birthdays. So I thought I’d do it the weekend after we returned, but then there was the RIADI BBQ so it was postponed a further week.
It was then planned that we’d go out this weekend. In order to appeal to a larger audience, we thought we’d go to Phil’s (since Ryan is afraid of Abstract)… except that almost no one could come. I’ve learned not to bother inviting people who live out of town and those who were in town were off doing their own things.
Earlier this week, a few people said they’d come but this afternoon the last few backed out, meaning it would be Shawn, Laura and I there. Not very celebratory.
Instead, Laura and I stayed in and started into season five of Six Feet Under.

If it’s on a weekend, and you give me some advance notice, I’d definitely make the trip into Waterloo for a party =)
August 23, 2006 @ 8:52 amI don’t know that I’ll be having any parties per se at my new place, since it’s pretty small. But I could just plan a night out and you could certainly crash at my place.
August 23, 2006 @ 5:15 pmi know how you feel about feeling frustrated about trying to get people to get together. and people cancelling/backing out last minute. i hope it didn’t ruin your overall birthday experience for 2006 this year though.
your alternative sounded nice too.
August 23, 2006 @ 6:51 pmoh definitely - I had a great time on the actual 13th.
August 23, 2006 @ 7:52 pmya, so jerome had told me that he and laura were going to phil’s that friday, and he asked if i’d be going too and i said yes. i think he might have said other people would be going, but he never said who, so i wasn’t counting on them.
then friday jerome says he and laura aren’t going anymore. everyone was busy/backed out for him, then he did the same to me!
derek cancelled on me as well that night.
I made last minute plans with Jason, and we went and had a great time. moral of the story: always find an excuse to go to phil’s.
August 25, 2006 @ 9:03 ambut you know other people that go there. I would have known you, Laura and myself, just as I said above.
