a sporadic self-chronicle since 2001

I was finally given my annual review at work today - 14 months after starting there. They work off a standard 2-page form with 8-10 items and you’re given a rank out of 5 for each. My boss is a guy who never gives out 5 because there’s always room for improvement. When I first walked in, I had two 3’s while the rest were 4’s. However as we went through it, he changed both my 3’s to 4’s. Apparently I’m the man. Or something. The only complaint (and it only showed up as a small mention in the final summary) was that I should try to be a little more on time, but that I’m doing much better now (as compared to… uh… other weeks). Go me.

After the review, I went and had a chat with the production manager. He’s the one who actually determines the raise amount, so I wanted to make sure he took some of my awesomeness into consideration when deciding.

I picked up ‘Silent Hill’ from Futureshop after work and watched it tonight. I really love the visual aesthetics of that movie: They’re just so awesome. I watched all the credits to discover it was filmed in Hamilton and Brantford. I would guess the former was for the more industrial locals while Brantford supplied the tired, old looking Silent Hill (with a bit of extra effort).

The DVD’s great because it has featurettes on things like the set design, creature design and choreography. Normally I’m not much into featurettes on DVDs but considering how much I love the visual elements of Silent Hill, from the creatures to the evil looking metal, rust and blood sets, they were really cool to see.
