Laura and I made a ginger bread house this afternoon…

Laura designed the Christmas tree and roof pattern, while I did the star and the chimney.

Later on, we met up with Mike, Jill, Joe and Lisa down at Nathan Phillips Square to see the Cavalcade of Lights. Last year, it was awesome. This year, there were a number of shitty bands playing beforehand, that we would have rather missed. Then, they just pushed a button somewhere with no warning or build-up and the lights were on. It was all quite boring.

However, they did follow it up with fireworks in front of city hall, and that’s always cool to see.

So that was a reason to have been there.

We followed that with an attempt at geocaching. Mike had never led such an expedition before and we kept losing signal amongst all the tall buildings. Eventually, we thought we were at the spot, but we weren’t really sure so our searching attempts were very poor. Later on, we realized we were at the right spot but oh well.

Having given up, we went to Starbucks and got warm, tasty drinks. There was no blond hotshot pilot to be seen. I was sad and mislead.

that’s a pretty awesome gingerbread house. do you remember the one dennis and i made waaaay back when? we tried again for the next few years and last year was the first year we didn’t make one together. i made one with a girlfriend instead — it was still pretty pathetic. i’m beginning to think it’s just me.

also, looking ahead to the post above, that’s awesome that you ate it. this is digusting..but i still have the gingerbread house dennis and i made together three years ago, wrapped up in plastic and sitting on top of my bookshelf in toronto. i’ve never eaten a gingerbread house that i’ve made before. O_O

I definitely remember the on you and Dennis made back in the day - and I still have pictures of it somewhere on my computer! Actually, when Laura first mentioned that we should make one, I told her my memories of you two making one.

We kind of cheated actually, the kit we bought came with the house pre-assembled so all we had to do was decorate it. But it was still fun and maybe next time we’ll have confidence to get one where we build the house ourselves.

3 year-old gingerbread house, eh? I would have expected the gingerbread to go bad or something, but what do I know, right?

To tell you the truth, when Laura talked about eating it, I was surprised. My only experience with a gingerbread house was the one you and Dennis made and it sat around in the kitchen for weeks (months?), never eaten, and was eventually destroyed and thrown out. So I figured that was normal - that it was just another Christmas decoration.

I learned the error of my ways though. a) there are prettier Christmas decorations and b) they’re quite delicious to eat - especially if you eat then sooner rather than later =)

haha… that was definitely the worse one we ever made. i remember we put too much water in the icing sugar so dennis thought it would be a great idea to thicken it with corn starch. not only did that ruin the taste of the icing, but it made it even less sticky! i remmeber we just gave up and put a huge blob of the “icing” on the board and threw all of the candy onto it. HAHAHA.

i think maybe i’ll have to make one this year… and eat it. the one i made last year was the best one for eating..but neither of us washed our hands before putting it together so that kind of threw me off of eating it.

looking at the one you and laura made, i’m still blown away by that roof. my roofs are always kind of pathetic looking - never as intricate as that!
