I finished Coraline yesterday. It’s a children’s story (begun as a story for the author’s daughter) so it wasn’t a long read. Excellent book though. Pretty creepy - I think it would scare children, but then I liked being scared as a child.
At the end of the book there are a few pages of extras in which the author writes about the ideas within the story and how it came to be. He concludes it with the following:
“It was a story, I learned when people began to read it, that children experienced as an adventure, but which gave adults nightmares. It’s the strangest book I’ve written, it took the longest time to write, and it’s the book I’m most proud of.”
What’s with the cardboard slipcovers on all my DVDs lately?

It’s becoming more and more common and today my copy of the new Meteos: Disney Magic for the DS arrived, and it’s got a fucking cardboard slipcover, too. Seriously, why do they think I need this?
