Laura and I watched ‘Alpha Dog’ tonight. The story was interesting but the white drug dealers who thought they were hot shit and black really bugged me. Twice as much when they were drinking or on drugs. Really, I would have been satisfied if I could have just read the plot online somewhere.
Following the movie, we headed out for bubble tea. We always head up to University Plaza to Sweet Dreams Teashop when we’re in KW. Tonight, as we came upon the place, it seemed the line was all the way out the door. But no, that didn’t make sense. Certainly it was just a group of people leaving slowly or smoking or something. No, seems they were actually waiting to get in - it was packed. It seemed kind of silly of us to wait just to get in the door when there was another bubble tea place in the same plaza, so we headed over…

Now, there’s been a Bubble Tease in University Plaza for as long as I’ve lived in town, but I’ve only gone there once. Dennis had told us it wasn’t overly “white-friendly” and the one time we went there, we were definitely the only Caucasians there. While the wait-staff wasn’t mean or anything, they just seemed put off by us being there.
But Laura and I ventured in anyway and it was… much the same. Us the only non-Asians in there and the wait-staff annoyed with us silly white people.
Still, the menu was a little more interesting than Sweet Dreams as it had:
- “Combos” involving 6 beers and an entrée
- Bubbletinis - delicious drinks with alcohol in them
- Fresh n’ Fruity bubble teas made with real fruit
We both tried the latter and they were fantastic. I got watermelon and it was better than… whatever it was Laura had.

I had strawberry-mango… and it was good, but disappointing compared to Jerome’s watermelon.
