Port Stanley Vacation
Day 2

This morning I went golfing at the Port Stanley Bluffs with Louise, Geoff, Heidi, her husband Wayne, Jason and dad.

Most of the family went to the beach in the late morning, at which point dad went to the store and bought a few cases of Coke. Tragedy averted. Apparently we’re kind of addicted.

Even though it was somewhat overcast and a rainy for a bit, we hung out at the beach for a while and it was pretty fun.

We all met up at Mackie’s for lunch. “A family tradition in fast food since 1911… famous for its homemade fixings and orangeade.” It’s a glorified fry wagon, only it’s an indoor place with all kinds of seating. Definitely a family-beach-fast-food place, though.

Really, it’s their secret fry sauce that keeps my family addicted. Almost tastes orangey but damn delicious, even years after my last childhood taste of it.

After eating, it was back to the beach and as the weather got better, Louise, Geoff and Emma joined us.

Later on, a bunch of us went for a long walk part-way down the length of the beach.

We walked for an hour and a half and then turned around and came back because it was getting stormy.

My Uncle Paul and Aunt Cathy came to visit from London and stayed for dinner. It was good to see them again.

I’m not sure how, but at some point I got a decent burn on my left foot:

It’s weird because it is clearly a sandal tan but I wasn’t wearing my sandals while at the beach or going on our walk.

Laura arrived later in the evening. We all sat our on the front patio and watched the sheet lightning over the tops of the trees. It kind of felt like being in a bayou, for those of us who have never even been near one =)

After everyone had gone to bed, Laura and I went for a walk along the beach to watch the lightning across the lake. It was really cool and kind of creepy.
