The BBC has recently put out a new adaptation of the Jekyll and Hyde story. Called simply Jekyll, it is really damn cool.

12 minutes into the first episode and I already loved it. It’s not “too” British (for example, the dialog in Extras is a bit tough to understand sometimes) and isn’t silly fantasy, there’s a lot of cool, dark realism to it.

21 minutes into the first episode, we finally see the “other him” (aka Hyde) and he’s AWESOME!!!!

I’ve only seen the first two episodes so far but I definitely like it. I really have no idea where the plot is going though. I expected it to follow his regular life, perhaps encountering challenges here and there but it seems like they’re taking the much more difficult, much more enjoyable route of following him through a specific ongoing plot line that changes his life as the season goes on. I dunno, we’ll see.

The whole thing seems really realistic and dark. The way the guy deals with his other half seems like the way a reasonable person would do it. Both of them have arrangements with each other that make a lot of sense from both of their perspectives.

The actor who plays Jekyll/Hyde really does an awesome job of both characters, giving both clearly different personalities. Overall it’s quite well done and super-entertaining.
