Western Canada Road Trip, Day 4
Winnipeg, MB to Moose Jaw, SK - 660 km
Laura and I got off to an early start this morning. Not so necessary, as it seems it was our shortest day of driving.

I think they keep bees here.

Yep, still flat.
Speaking of which, Laura and I have discovered an interesting phenomenon here which we have labeled the ‘prairie pass.’ I’m not sure if it’s how they’re taught in the prairies, but when it comes to passing people, all the people with Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta license plates seem to do it the same (frustrating) way: Change lanes, ever-so slowly creep up beside the car you’re passing and match speeds with them. Follow along beside the car for a minute or two and then ever-so slowly pull ahead of them and get back over to the right lane. It’s maddening to watch.

At lunchtime we stopped in some tiny town that we actually passed in the time it took us to decide if we wanted to stop. Circling back, we parked in what looked like a car graveyard but was labeled as a car museum.

Interestingly, the tiny corner store there had all kinds of cool treats including Jones Soda candies and some ‘Pimp Juice’ energy drink, which I had to try.

Turns out it’s radiation-green coloured. Yum.

Today was our shortest drive so far but since Laura’s university friend Matt is from Regina, we had to stop there to see the city for a bit. Everywhere we turned, there was a store that sold or repaired vacuums. It was weird.
While driving around Regina, we spotted this Indian restaurant:

We had actually discussed going for Indian food every night so far on this trip, but in looking up places, they were always pretty far away and we dismissed them. Today, however, we were right there and had plenty of time, so we went for an early dinner at Flavours of India.

It was a pretty random find but it was quite excellent.

Turns out three professional/full-time chefs from India all decided to move to Canada together and opened up this restaurant. Everything was home made from scratch and not only was it clearly the best Indian food I had ever eaten, Laura suspects it might even be the best meal she’s ever had.
After eating, we continued on to Moose Jaw…

…to find our hotel…

…which I guess used to be a Best Western…

It was nice enough though:

Not really knowing the time zones, it turns out we gained an extra hour today without realizing it. This means that the “early dinner” we thought we were having around 4pm was actually eaten at 3pm. No wonder the place was deserted.
Since we were there so early, we decided to go for a walk to see the sights.

Laura said this is the ugliest building she’s ever seen.

Ah yes, the front of the hood and the car-top carrier are looking pretty gross now, with all the bugs. It now attracts (carnivorous?) bees.
