Radiohead announced on their site today that their new album, their 7th full-length one, I believe, will be released on October 10th (same day as the Orange box - exciting day!!).
The most interesting parts to note are that it will only be available to buy and download on their site with no physical retail release to speak of. Later this year there will be a ‘discbox’ set for 40 British pounds (I don’t even know how to make the pounds symbol) which will also only be available from their site. Either way, you’re going directly through them (awesome) and still get a digital download of the music (also cool).

More importantly, the price field is left blank with the disclaimer, “it’s up to you.” Clicking through the question mark beside this blank field brings the clarifying statement, “no really, it’s up to you.”

I’m a big fan of Radiohead. Their music just hits me the right way and they’ve always seemed to be a band that wasn’t content to do the same thing over and over. Their music evolves and so does the way they interact with their fans. I’m really impressed with this new direction and I hope it works out well for them.
Now I just have to strike a balance between wanting to give them decent money for their new music and the fact that I am still unemployed…
