I’m assuming you’ve read the book or at least the back cover, and won’t spoil anything more than that.
Early on, when things go wrong and the husband gets his rollback while his wife doesn’t, I was upset. I was so upset, in feeling the frustration of the main character, that I [...]

Sir Arthur C. Clark, inventor, sci-fi author and futurist, died today. Sad times but he will be remembered through his many works.
The recorded message he released on his recent 90th birthday seems a fitting goodbye to the man.
There is hopeful symbolism in the fact that flags do not wave in a vacuum.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
So the second Harry Potter book was much better than the first. It felt like now that the setting has been established in book one, we could tell a real story. This, as opposed to the tiny story in book one which was all there was time for after [...]

I Am America (And So Can You!)
by Stephen Colbert
I had been listening to the Stephen Colbert book at work and finished it today. I must say, it wasn’t as good or as funny as I was hoping it would be. In all actuality, it seemed a lot like the Colbert Report: Some parts are quite [...]

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
by J.K. Rowling
Well, I finally finished reading Harry Potter 1. I started it in July of last year and just couldn’t get very into it. The frequency and speed of my reading habits are influenced directly by how “into” a book I am, so after getting bored of Potter 1, [...]

The Areas of My Expertise
by John Hodgman
An excellent almanac of information about nearly everything. It is all completely untrue but as the author points out, the truth is much more boring. I’ve also never learned so much about hobos before. Good though. Thoroughly funny.
I actually didn’t read this book but rather got the audiobook from [...]

Neil Gaiman is the author who showed me that fantasy isn’t all just orcs and elves (which I’m really not that into) and I recently finished reading his collection of short stories and poems, Fragile Things. The thing I like best about the book is that with 27 different stories to tell, you get a [...]

I finished Stardust recently. It was a pretty good story. Full of adventures and such. I’m not often that into fantasy stories set in middle-earth type times but I still enjoyed it. I like that it wasn’t some giant, epic Lord of the Rings-type story. Oh sure, there are grand things going on while the [...]

The new Matthew Good album, Hospital Music, came out at midnight tonight (aka, right on the 31st) on the iTunes music store and I grabbed it right away. Upon first listen, it is quite excellent.

I finished reading Hybrids a little while ago and it was alright. Not as good as the first book of [...]

A lot of the time when I’m looking for new books to buy, I look for ones I haven’t read by authors I already know I like. It seems the safer choice.
It was perhaps three months ago when I was in a Chapters last and I picked up a couple Neil Gaiman books I hadn’t [...]
